Twisted Popsicles

The other day I was trying to think of a fun inexpensive project to work on while I had some extra time. As I strolled through my facebook page I was seeing all of these recipes for popsicle. My thought was how about freezing fruit and vegetables on wooden popsicle sticks. I think I spent about $12.00 on the whole project, buy the Popsicle maker and it been summertime and super hot out, these little devils were every where in all different shapes! I had a lot of the vegetables in my freezer and the fruit in my frig, so I went to work! After a few days of making just the right colors this was the results!

Minion cupcakes

These were to fun to make! Minion cupcakes, who would have thought that they would be so easy! I baked cupcakes. Cut twinkies in half or 1/3, I laid them flat to put on the eyes, I used white smarties for them, then drew on the faces. After icing the cupcakes, I chose blue, I put the minions on top and finished the hair. Super cute and the kids will love them!

Taking to the streets

The "pig" burger also called Buta-burger

This "pig" burger is from Fuku Burger, in Las Vegas. This is a popular food truck in Vegas, so I decided that I should give it a spin and see what all the lines are about, I ordered the Buta Burger, they asked me to think of a fun name to put my order under, of course I picked fab foodie! I waited for my name to be called and then it happened, it finally arrived, the "pig" burger. I quickly took it to the last of the sunlight that was left and started snapping. This burger was beautifully colored, so bright, it was easy to make it look sexy!  I couldn't wait to dig in.

This burger was very twisted, it had so many turns on my palate, I thought I was doing the twist. And the crunch of the pickled ginger just topped it off!

It consists of miso-glaze, applewood bacon, double american cheese, onion & pickled ginger, finished with Japanese BBQ Sauce.

I found Fuku Burger at Streats Las Vegas, down at the El Cortez, near Fremont street, every second Saturday of the month there is a food truck event there.

Bringing you food from the street

Let me introduce you to the Redneck kitchen out of Las Vegas. This food truck is awesome, it's the Carolina's, brought directly to you. Now if you've ever been to the Carolina's, you know they claim to have the best BBQ, the ONLY BBQ!! I think this debate will still be going on long after I'm gone. The Carolina style sauce is very vinegar based, and they put this on everything! That's exactly what you got from Redneck's Kitchen, real Carolina sauce, with the great bite to it. This sauce blends so well with pork, amazing. The sandwich consisted of pull pork, cole slaw, sauce on a sesame seed bun, heck they even throw in beans on the side.

I found Redneck kitchen at Tommy rockers on Dean Martin, they have events on Saturday nights.

Crepes, can I just say that this project was the hardest for me to shoot yet. Crepes are semi flat and it's hard to see what the ingredients are on the inside. So after shooting a session for about 3 hours, processing the images and NOT being happy with what I saw, I called my friend Chef Angela Roberson. I made a list of things to buy and meet her at the store, after shopping for ingredients and drinking coffee, we went back to my studio to plate up crepes to make them sexy! That is my goal to make the food look sexy, well Chef Angela did just that, she made the sexy! Sometimes I wish I could view plating through her eyes, she makes it look so easy! Here are the results!
